The idea for Promote SA came about when Kate Knapman and Nici Perriam worked together on planning an event for Adelaide based bloggers in February of 2016. They have long felt that Adelaide misses out on capturing the attention of bigger brands, however it became clear that home grown brands have a much more interesting tale to tell.
Thirty five bloggers, twelve brands, three guest speakers, a local photographer and the owner of Seawall Apartments came together to make the event a success and both Kate and Nici said their favourite outcome of the day was all the wonderful people they had met. They didn’t want to stop there. They wanted to meet more people, to learn and tell more stories, they want more people to know about the amazing talent we have here in SA.
As well as showcasing the people and the stories behind some of SA’s brands and businesses, Kate and Nici are hoping to support bloggers with resources and advice on how to blog successfully. Kate has built strong relationships with many PR companies and brands during her years of beauty blogging, while Nici is an expert wordsmith and has a few useful technical skills as well. They are hoping to provide free reference guides for experienced and new bloggers alike.
The final piece of the Promote SA puzzle are the images that grace the blog, produced by freelance videographer, Adrian Price http://www.adrianprice.net.au. Adrian is Nici’s partner and kindly helps out by photographing events, products and interview subjects. He is also available for freelance work as a digital video producer. Check out his website for more info.
Kate Knapman is a born and bred South Aussie having grown up in Victor Harbor before moving to Adelaide to undertake her Secondary Schooling. She has been married for more than 25 years and even though they are now officially ‘empty nesters’ she still considers her two children her babies!
Kate has a varied background having worked in a recording studio, advertising, and fashion wholesale along with a long stint as a joint Director of Video World – the Sony Shop in Rundle Street. Since closing Video World in 2010 Kate has changed her career and now works as a Practice Manager in a podiatry business.
Never to be one to sit still for any length of time she has also been writing about one of her other passions – beauty – over at http://www.seducedbybeauty.com. This has given her the opportunity to learn about social media and has allowed her to develop her on-camera and writing skills. Being a classically trained soprano and having performed on stage since the age of 13 with the Pembroke Girls Choir, Kate had been missing ‘performing’ and YouTube has reignited the passion.
Having been in small business for most of her career, Kate believes there are many gems in our state that should be supported and celebrated. When given the opportunity to support a family business or a South Australian brand, Kate and her family will always choose local over multi-nationals.
Kate is looking forward to sharing the stories behind SA brands, interesting and inspiring South Australians, and much more through Promote SA.
Nici Perriam is a 30 something mum of one, who was also born and grew up in South Australia, hailing from the inner southern suburbs. Although she went to the extreme and lived in the furthest northern area (you know where I’m talking about), she is now back where she belongs in the south. She lives with her daughter, Australian Terrier (Lily), and partner that she kindly adopted from New Zealand.
If Nici could be anything when she grows up, it would be a writer. She enjoys writing fiction, as well as blogging on her beauty and food blog, aptly titled http://www.beautyandfood.net, and is currently honing her skills as a freelance copywriter. Nici also finished in the top 5 of iVillage’s Food Blogger Idol in 2015 with her recipe for Cheesy Sausage Rolls.
In the year that Nici turned 30, she lost her husband to suicide. This life changing event has shaped her into someone she has grown to be proud of, but also someone who knows that life is short and you need to get out there and make the most of every opportunity. Nici has a genuine interest in people and their own unique stories, something she shares closely with Kate.
Like most South Aussies, Nici likes good food, good wine, staying in Bed and Breakfasts and brunch by the beach. Her aim is to get to know more about this fair city: the people, the places, the events and the stories.
